Emily Shea, University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign (Formerly College of DuPage)
I was a student at College of DuPage when I met Dale at the Writing, Reading, Speech Assistance area. I came in looking for help with my comparative politics paper. We met periodically, working towards my final draft. Each time I’d come in with a draft, and Dale was patient enough to read through and consider each and every sentence with me. As the deadline neared, Dale would label problematic areas as either a red or yellow flag, denoting how urgent it was to fix each section. I can honestly say that without working with Dale my essay would have not earned the A that it did.
Later, when I was applying to universities, I reached out to Dale to see if he would help me with my personal essay. While I was no longer attending the college, Dale worked with me over email and Google Docs. Initially, I was a little concerned that we may not work as well over email as in person, but I found that no matter how we were communicating Dale gave extremely clear and direct criticisms and praises. Again, the work I produced was greatly improved over my first draft—and I got into my dream journalism program.
I would recommend that anyone looking for writing help work with Dale.
